Creating Connection Rather Than Clutter

Clutter often occurs when we are seeking comfort and connection. Chaos, loss aversion and retail therapy can lead us to gather and hold on to many more items than we need or even want.

In those times, what we may truly be seeking is connection. To connect with our God/dess, family, friends, the natural world, and/or the deepest sense of who we are is often the comfort we need to allow ourselves to live an uncluttered life.

What types of self care might we practice when seeking connection, finding ourselves in chaos, or slipping back into gathering mode?

If I am feeling a need for inner connection, I find that meditation, hiking, attending a Unity church service, practicing yoga and admiring art are activities that fill my soul instead of clutter my cabinets.

If am feeling disconnected from my physical body, yoga (yep, again - highly recommend it), hiking, massage and pedicures allow me to stretch, strengthen, honor, heal, and deeply connect with this frame that serves me so well.

Sometimes I don’t even know that I am seeking community connection, but  after visiting with family and friends, helping those in need, or attending community events I feel the happiness of a full life with wonderful people rather than a need for more stuff.

So, when you find yourself gathering unconsciously or overwhelmed by clutter, I would recommend taking care of yourself by connecting in ways that fill your soul, warm your heart or honor your body
