The Roundabout Method for Stress-Free Organizing

I have a number of clients in Norton Commons, which is in Prospect, Kentucky. One of the entrances into Norton Commons is via a roundabout, and as I arrived the other day I thought about how home and small business organizing is like navigating a roundabout.

Picture a roundabout, the traffic circle with multiple exits, allowing everyone to keep moving as long as they yield when necessary. You only need to pause for others already in motion, and then exit the circle when it’s time to move on to your next destination. Doesn't that sound a lot like the process of organizing?

Organizing is all about efficiency and flow. Just like in a roundabout, you can keep moving forward, tackling each task as it comes. But here's the key—you need to yield to what's happening around you. Maybe you need to pause for your own energy levels, waiting for the right moment when you're truly ready to dive into a project. Or perhaps you need to make space for your family, giving them the attention they need, even if it means momentarily stepping away from organizing.

Life is full of things that demand our attention—events on your calendar, obligations with loved ones, or simply the need for a break. But just like in a roundabout, you don't have to stop completely. You can keep making progress, bit by bit, yielding when necessary, and continuing when the path is clear.

And remember, it’s okay to exit the circle when you need to. Sometimes, stepping away from organizing for a while is exactly what you need to come back refreshed and ready to tackle the next task.

Let’s keep things moving together!
