Embracing Vacation Vibes at Home: Declutter for a Refreshing Lifestyle

Ideally, vacations provide a sense of peace, clarity, and rejuvenation. I am experiencing that this week at the beach with friends, while my AMAZING team organizes client homes in Louisville.

On the beach, there's a profound absence of clutter, both physical and mental. There aren't piles of unopened mail, long to-do lists or closets overflowing with clothes we never wear. We bring only what we need & really want on vacation, leaving us ample space – physically, mentally, and emotionally, for people, experiences and relaxation.

The key to an uncluttered vacation is the same as the key to an organized home - prioritizing and planning. Because we prioritized peacefulness, we intentionally planned a post-Labor Day trip. So, there are very few crowds. And there are so many choices for where to park and sit and swim. We don’t have to wait for a spot to clear or squeeze ourselves or our belongings into tight spaces. Our vacation is uncluttered.

And so my mind is uncluttered. I find deep relaxation as my breath matches the ebb and flow of the waves. I can see all the way down the beach - so very far ahead. All the pre-vacation mental inventory of to-do lists, appointments and deadlines melt away as I clearly see all the way to the horizon. And what I see includes clarity about recreating vacation vibes at home. If we can thrive on vacation with limited inventory we can do the same in our daily lives. We can go all in or just make a change or two to have an everyday life that resembles a vacation.

Ask yourself:

  • What type of volume do you want to navigate in your daily life?

  • Can you simplify your life by giving space only to those items you would carry with you because you wear or use them regularly?

  • Can you take some things off our calendar?

  • How crowded do you want your counters and your mind to be?

Just as we strategically schedule vacations and selectively pack our suitcases, we can organize our homes for maximum efficiency and relaxation. The key is keeping only the items that we would take with us on vacation - the inventory we love enough to take care of and that loves us enough to make us feel that we are on vacation every day!
