How to Get Caught Up When You Have Piles of Laundry

Laundry piles up quickly, and catching up can feel like an impossible task. But don't worry—I've got some effective strategies to help you tackle those heaps of clothes so you can get your laundry room, closets, and LIFE organized!

1. DYE CATCHERS

First up, let's talk about dye catchers, which you can sold as “color keepers”, “ color catchers”, etc. These nifty products go into your washing machine and trap dye, so you no longer have to sort your laundry by color. Using color catchers can save you a ton of time and effort. Just toss your clothes in the wash without worrying about colors bleeding, and you'll have one less thing to stress over.

2. Decreased Fabric Sorting

Although we used to have to be very careful to NOT mix certain fabric weights in the same load, many modern fabrics are more durable, newer washing machines are more careful with our clothes, and dryers have more advanced sensors. So, you may not need to separate clothes by fabric type as much as you used to. Check labels but also experiment for yourself - you may be happily surprised!

3. Laundry Service

If you're feeling completely overwhelmed by mountains of laundry, consider using a laundry service just to get caught up, or as a matter of habit. This can be a lifesaver, especially if your schedule is packed. Gather all your laundry, take it to a local laundromat, and pay by the pound for them to wash, dry, fold, and bag your clothes. Then, you just pick them up and put them away. And, some laundry services will pick up and deliver! For some of my clients, this service is a game-changer. It takes the burden off their shoulders and allows them to start fresh.

4. DECREASED VOLUME

If you have so much laundry that catching up feels impossible, you may simply have too many clothes. it might be time to donate, consign or discard some items. Remember, the key to staying organized is only keeping what you can manage.

5. sharing Laundry Duties

It's important to involve everyone in the family in some aspect of the laundry process. Children want to help and if you start them young you can more easily teach them valuable life skills. Even toddlers can help and by seven kids can often handle laundry independently. Once the entire household gets into a habit of helping make sure laundry is gathered, washed, dried, folded and put away on a regular basis, everyone will feel more organized and less stressed.

Laundry doesn't have to be an endless chore. With these strategies—using dye catchers, considering a laundry service, and sharing the load (well, LOADS)—you can get caught up and keep your laundry under control. Remember, staying organized is about finding what works best for you and your family.
