Tips for Finding DIY ORGANIZING Time

Whether you’re working on a home project, an office overhaul, or helping organize a community space, the first step is to find time to do it. You need to declutter your calendar before you can declutter your space. Here are some tips to help you make time for organizing:

  1. Identify Low-Hanging Fruit: Look at your calendar and find activities that you can easily remove. Maybe it’s a club you’re no longer passionate about or a chore that can wait. Determine what you can set aside temporarily to focus on organizing.

  2. Consider Delegating Tasks: Look at your responsibilities around the house. Can someone else take over some chores for the time being? Discuss with your family or housemates and see if anyone can pitch in. Perhaps they can handle laundry while you tackle the kitchen counter.

  3. Reevaluate Your Commitments: Sometimes, we take on more than we need to. Evaluate your commitments and see what you can pause or delegate. It’s okay to say you’re taking a break to focus on creating new systems at home.

  4. Rethink Work Hours: Many people work more hours than they are paid for. Track your actual time working vs. being compensated for and see if you have time to reallocate. An organized space makes you more productive and happier, so it’s a win-win for you and your employer! If you work from home, can you use the time you are saving on commuting, meal prep, & dresssing for the office to organize your space?

  5. Get Creative with Social Obligations: If you love to spend time with freinds but clutter is stressing you out, ask for help. Let friends know you are finding time to organize; trust me they will appreciate that! You may even be able to transform a ladies night out into a ladies night in, where you rotate homes, help with an organizing project, then have dinner together!

Remember, it’s important to be kind to yourself and know that you’re worthy of balance. You’re a human being, not a human doing. Allow yourself to adjust your schedule to accommodate your current priorities.
