Organizing for More Rest or The Perfect Outfit
Organizing our morning routines with intention and grace allows us to reduce stress, boost productivity and improve the quality of our work. I especially appreciate how arranging my closet to support dressing for different tasks throughout my day allows me to find the appropriate clothes with ease.
Some days all I need to do is roll out of bed, brush my teeth, throw on a sweatshirt and brush my hair before hopping onto a Zoom meeting with my team. We’re all dressed casually, comfortable in our own spaces, and I can tell you—we get a lot done this way. There's something to be said for the extra sleep and ease that comes with not needing to dress up for a meeting. And getting enough sleep is crucial for our well-being.
But then, my day might shift. My next appointment could be with a brand-new client for a virtual organizing session. For that, I take the time to shower, curl my hair, apply some makeup, and choose a beautiful scarf to wear. Why? Because I want to show my client that I genuinely care about their goals for a beautifully organized home. The way I present myself reflects the respect and dedication I have for them and theiir vision. I want them to feel that I'm fully engaged, that I’m bringing beauty, order, and intentionality into our interaction.
It’s amazing how these small acts of self-care—choosing an outfit, doing our hair—can shift our mindset and set the tone for the day. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good and showing others that they matter. Whether it’s your family, your colleagues, or your clients, taking that extra step to show you’re present and attentive can make a world of difference in your interactions.
Now, I know this might sound a bit superficial, but trust me, it’s not. As someone who was raised in the south, this idea of dressing with care and intention is deeply ingrained in me and I’ve found that it’s more than just a cultural practice—it’s a strategy that enhances how I approach my work. When I’m dressed in a certain way, I feel more strategic, focused, and ready to tackle the challenges of the day. On the other hand, if I need to be more collaborative, cozy, or thoughtful, I might choose a different, more relaxed outfit.
Your environment and how you present yourself within it can significantly impact your productivity. It’s fun, too, to choose the right blouse or lip tint, to set a beautiful table for a meal, and to create an atmosphere that aligns with your goals. So, as you go about your day, I encourage you to think about how you can balance comfort with intention in your life. Whether it’s through your wardrobe or your surroundings, these small, mindful choices can decrease stress, increase productivity, and help you enjoy a more beautiful, organized home.
Take care of yourself and enjoy the process—it’s all part of creating a life that feels as good as it looks.
