Simplify Your Laundry Routine and Reclaim Your Space

I recently worked with a client who was feeling overwhelmed by her laundry room. She mentioned that the space felt disorganized because she just couldn’t keep up with the laundry, so I asked her to walk me through her process. What she shared was quite interesting, and it highlighted a couple of things that I think might help you too!

One of the key things I noticed was that she air-dried a lot of her clothes—on drying racks, hangers, and garment racks. We took a closer look at the tags on her clothes, and surprisingly, most of them didn’t actually need to be air-dried. She had been following laundry habits she’d learned years ago, even though most of her clothes didn’t require it. This habit was taking up a lot of her time and making her laundry room feel cluttered.

There are two things I think are worth considering if you’ve ever felt the same way:

1. Fabrics have come a long way.

Many textiles are more durable and forgiving than they were years ago. The improvements in fabric quality mean that many clothes can be dried in the dryer without any shrinkage or damage.

2. Washing machines and dryers have evolved too.

Modern machines are gentler on clothes. They’re designed with molded pieces and fewer places where garments can snag, meaning that many items you once thought needed air-drying might actually be perfectly safe to toss in the dryer.

I suggested that my client give it a try—letting some items dry in the dryer and seeing how it goes. I have a feeling she’s going to be pleasantly surprised by how much time she saves, and as a result, her laundry room will feel much more manageable and organized.

If you’ve been feeling like laundry is taking over your space, maybe it’s time to revisit your routine. With a few small changes, you might find that your laundry gets done faster, and your space stays more organized.
