Why is it so hard to get Organized?
Part 1 in a series with Organizing Expert Pinky Jackson as featured on the podcast “Things I Need to Learn in Life I didn't Learn in School” with WAVE news anchor Dawne Gee
Dawne Gee: Why is it so hard for us to be organized?
Pinky Jackson: That's such a good question and it can be different for each person. I think it's both nature and nurture. And much disorganization is caused by the amount of consumer goods that are directed at us. So many things, including:
New trends
Bulk purchases
Online ads
Free samples
Junk mail
Friends & family trying to get rid of things & wanting us to take them
We're really swimming upstream as we try to organize intentional belongings as well as items that come into our home unsolicited. Of course our clutter is our responsibility, but it’s not our fault. It is important to let go of shame, blame and guilt so we can move forward. We have enough stress on our plates with the busy-ness of daily life. Add to that the many transitions we go through, such as:
New Job
Moving
Having a baby
Caring for aging parents
Death in the family
Working from home
Kids home for the summer
And all the holidays and social commitments…
All of this, and more, can contribute to disorganization. So it’s important to know that you are not alone and let go of the shame so you can let go of the clutter.
