Effortless Decluttering with a Simple Donation System
Let me share a simple yet effective system to help you keep your home clutter-free. It's something you can easily implement, and it works wonders over time.
Here’s how it goes: place a donation bin near whichever door you typically use to leave the house. It could be your garage door, the front door, or the back door—whatever works best for your flow. Better yet, if you live in a multi-level home, consider putting a donation bin on every floor. And if you have rooms with a lot of stuff—like playrooms or dressing rooms—those spaces can definitely benefit from having a donation bin, too.
Think about the areas where you often find yourself saying things like, "We don’t need this anymore," or "No one's using that," or "That doesn't fit." These are perfect moments to just pop those items right into the bin. It’s amazing how freeing it feels to know that everything has a place to go when it's no longer serving you.
A little tip: I recommend lining your donation bins with plastic bags for things that are unbreakable and using a box for more fragile items. Once your bin or bag gets full enough—full enough that you can safely carry it—that’s your signal. It’s time to load it into your car. Keep this part simple, too. When your back seat or trunk fills up, that’s when you take your donations to the center.
The key to this system is making it convenient. The bin is your resource, your car is part of the process, and of course, your local donation center (like Goodwill or whichever is most convenient for you) is the final step. And here’s the best part: give yourself permission to use the closest donation spot. You don’t need to overcomplicate it or feel guilty about choosing the easiest option for yourself.
You deserve to have a happy, organized space, and you deserve to make the process as simple and convenient as possible. Happy decluttering!
